Central Asia is among the priority regions for Kapitan Group to develop cargo transportation. And Turkmenistan is of highest priority.
Flows and quantities of cargoes carried through its territory grow from year to year due to the rates of social and economic development of the country and its favourable geographic location on the crossroads of Eurasian international freight flows. Modernisation and construction are in the active phase here and transport infrastructure is being developed.
In summer 2014, the Oversize Cargo Department of the Group of Companies analysed this area in details having studied its potential and opportunities. Already in September, the first project for transportation of high-value printing equipment to Turkmenistan was implemented. Due to the Kapitan’s status of the customs carrier, no convoy escort was required for transportation of these high-value goods through the territories of Kazakhstan and Russia; as a result, the cargo was timely delivered within the scope of the task set by the consignee. The service provided in accordance with the customer’s expectations became the foundation for further joint work and long-term business relations.
Solving the new tasks varying in terms of their complexity throughout almost a year, Kapitan Group acquired necessary experience and confidence for work in the Central Asia region. The amount of partners and customers grows. As of today, for Turkmenistan, the projects for transportation of standard full truck loads and oversize cargo (such as construction equipment and machinery), high-value goods (industrial and medical equipment), and dangerous goods (chemical products) are implemented.
There are some specific features to be taken into consideration for organisation of cargo transportation to Turkmenistan:
- strict visa regime;
- high requirements in terms of documentation for all the goods carried, and strict customs control;
- long distances and times en route, long distances between large settlements on a route (up to 500 km in the Karakum Desert);
- specific regional climate (in winter, highly variable weather from cold, with temperatures as low as -30°C, to abrupt thaws resulting in “disappearance” of snow cover and roads; in spring, unstable weather with rainfalls and frosts; in summer, strong winds resulting in sandstorms and dry windstorms, as well as day-night variations of temperature in central regions of the country, from +15°C at night to +50°C in the daytime), severe and snowy winters in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the countries bordering Turkmenistan in the north.
These factors result in higher requirements for condition and equipment of motor vehicles and for skills of drivers.
Delivery is performed by own road trains meeting the Euro-4 and Euro-5 environmental standards. The engineering and technical personnel of the Group of Companies apply scrupulous and thorough approach to the tasks of preparation of motor vehicles for harsh road conditions; reinforced tilts, special fastening systems and real-time vehicle location monitoring are the measures used to ensure safety of cargo.
Knowledge of the Turkmenistan legislation, customs procedures and related recent amendments is mandatory. Drivers are subject to appropriate training and instructing. The Group of Companies provides the drivers en route with 24-hour support from its offices to quickly respond to any unexpected situations and to make appropriate decisions. Responsibility, attentiveness, alertness – these are the qualities we promote among our personnel.
